and I adopted Jasmine on June 24, 2000, after the passing of
our German Shepherd - Sadie. We were hoping to find a dog that
could be a good family member and friend to our other dog, but
didn't know much about rottweiler's. When Tammy started looking
at your website a few weeks after Sadie passed, I was a little
skeptical. We had never owned a rotti, and we were not sure what
to expect.
After some research and determining that the rottweiler's reputation
was quite undeserved, we decided to apply. We filled out an application
and requested a meeting with some of the rotti's available on the
PARR web site. We met Jasmine at the Central Ave park and were
smitten with her immediately--confident, friendly, and beautiful,
we were sold right away that she was the one we wanted. She fit
well into our home and immediately was able to make friends with
our existing elderly dog--Taffy, who has since passed.
Jasmine
was such a great family member, and was much more than what we
originally
thought we were getting--sensitive, confident,
intelligent, beautiful…I could go on and on about her. Unfortunately,
in late October of 2002, Jasmine was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma
(bone-cancer) and we had some hard choices to make--we decided
to aggressively take care of the cancer--amputation of her left
shoulder and forelimb, followed by three treatments of chemotherapy.
She finished her last treatment in mid December and received a
clean x-ray and blood sample shortly after--no sign of cancer!
In January, we added another rotti from PARR to our family--Boris.
He and Jasmine hit it off well and they liked to play tug-o-war,
even with Jasmine's missing limb she held her own and seemed to
enjoy the company of a younger dog. This continued until three
weeks ago, when we noticed Jasmine was not doing to well--she was
tired and had very watery eyes; shortly after that she overcame
the episode and seemed to be fine again. Unfortunately, this would
not last, she again had the same symptoms, and started to limp
on her hind legs. Tammy took her into see the Oncologist on July
18, 2003. The x-ray told it all--the cancer was back and was in
an advanced stage--organs, lungs, et al; she took a very bad turn
for the worse this weekend and Tammy and I decided it was time
to say goodbye to our baby. She went out in style--she was given
so much love and attention that she must have felt smothered, but
she was able to enjoy her favorite treats--human food.
Tammy and I made her comfortable at the vets office and she enjoyed
her favorite treat -- a quarter-pounder. She passed away at 5:00PM
on July 21st, 2003.
We will always remember Jasmine as a caring and loving dog, and
we will have a large hole in our hearts for her. We choose to remember
the good times and joy Jasmine brought to our family--we were truly
the lucky ones to have Jasmine in our family.
